fall vibes in a season that looks different this year

written by Jasmine Irven

I know that the fall season looks a little different this year. Many of us lean on the fall because of the feelings of comfort and nourishment it gives us, a lot of which comes from nostalgia surrounding the holiday season and time spent with family.

While I truly hope you're able to safely spend time with your family this season (virtually or in person), the reality is that this may not be possible.

So, I'd encourage you to create these feelings of comfort and nourishment in your life however you can.

some of my suggestions?

  • lighting a candle and/or starting a diffuser to make your space warm and cozy

  • stock up on blankets and comfy clothes (or simply use what you have - we’re all about sustainability)

  • develop a nourishing night and morning routine that suits the fall weather (while summer for me held a morning walk for example, the cooler fall weather means I’m back to indoor workouts and my morning most days looks like sipping coffee while reading a book!). P.s I wrote a full blog post on how to transition your mind, body, and soul to the fall season here.

  • read or watch a movie cozied up with tea (also it’s spooky season people so this is a must)

  • create simple rituals you love and can lean on to relieve stress (meditation, yoga, colouring, going for walks, dancing, singing, reading — whatever works for you!)

  • incorporating warm, nourishing, and seasonal foods into your diet (I’ve written more about the benefits of seasonal eating here as well as a full overview of what seasonal eating is here.

and please remember,

  •  to try and focus on feelings of gratitude as much as possible on what you are able to do, who you are able to see, instead of what/who you aren't

  • to be present as much as possible

  • to take time for deep breaths and self-reflection

And above all, please listen to your body and make choices that serve you — like I said, this season is going to look different. The ongoings of this year were unexpected and no one could have been “prepared” for them.

Know that it’s okay if your productivity looks different. Know it’s okay to want to curl up in a bed some days and not get out. Know that it’s okay to feel ALL the things.

Know that you are deserving of self-care and self-love. Know that those are not things that are earned! You deserve them daily, and this season is no different.

Reflect on how you’ve been feeling. Give yourself the time and solitude to listen to your intuition. Set intentions and move forward. Give yourself grace throughout.

Happy Fall my friends. 💛
