8 things to reassure you when you're feeling overwhelmed

written by Jasmine Irven

It can be easy to get caught up in the overwhelm. In the messages of the media and the online world, in the panic and chaos, in the stress of other people.

When it all seems to come to a head and you feel a sense of despair, remember:

there are always going to be things that are out of your control

Let that be okay. Take peace in the knowing that everything in life is impermanent. Because when life doesn’t change there is no growth. Give yourself grace, let go, and move forward despite the unknown.

this sadness or overwhelm itself is also temporary!!

It may be a day, a week, a season. But it will pass, because again, everything in life is impermanent. Change is inevitable.

any perceived negativity in life, allows us to experience the positive even more

Think about it: a sheet of white paper looks its whitest against a black wall! You can experience happiness the most after going through a period of sadness, because knowing what it’s like to lose that happiness is now fresh in your mind. As hard as it is to accept in the moment, we need contrast in life. We need change. We need hardship.

you are enough

You are all you need. You don’t need to rely on anything external for peace, love, calm, happiness; it’s all available within. It’s just a matter of accessing it. Of connecting or reconnecting with yourself on a deeper level.

slow down

Maybe this is the universe’s way of telling you that you are moving too fast. Take the time to reflect on all that’s going on. What can you do to slow down? Take things day by day, moment by moment.

you don’t need to have everything figured out!

Life is a process, a journey. If there were no challenges there would be no learning, no progression. And how boring would that be!?

don’t push yourself too hard

Be patient. Patience is the antidote to anger and stress, and when you’re patient there’s no space in your life for overwhelm!

go back to the basics

Focus on your sleep, your nutrition, you breath, your hydration. On movement. On connecting with yourself. On creating. On exploring. Grounding yourself in nature and in your body. On your inner guidance and all that it offers you.

Take this time to be with yourself. Journal. Meditate. Create.

Figure out what’s important to you. What you want your life to look like. Take action on those things, and let go of the rest. Focus on the things that are in your control and let go of those that aren’t. ⁣

May you be happy, may you be healthy, may you be at peace. ✨
