winter berry smoothie (plant-based)

written by Jasmine Irven

When we talk about seasonal eating and shifting with the seasons, we generally like to encourage the consumption of warm, nourishing foods in the winter months. Generally that will look like more teas and lattes, and less cold drinks like smoothies.

However, there are times when you just want a quick meal or filling snack and in those cases there’s really no beating a super delicious smoothie.

In this recipe we use a mix of greens and berries to give a range of nutrients, use frozen ingredients because fresh berries and bananas likely aren’t available where you are in winter months, and include the warming properties of cinnamon to help give our bodies the support they’re craving.

Plus, adding the healthy fats and protein powder, while optional, will help to fill us up and provide our bodies with additional warmth.

ingredients

  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds

  • 1 tbsp. ground flax seeds

  • 1 tbsp. hemp hearts

  • 1/2 scoop vegan protein powder (optional)

  • 1-2 tsp cinnamon (more or less, to taste)

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen berries of choice

  • 2 cups baby spinach

instructions

01 Add all ingredients to a blender

02 Mix until well combined

03 Enjoy
